(NJS can talk about The Great Escape for days…it was my first favorite movie. Here's a war film with no women. Somehow, it is magnificent; truly one of the most entertaining movies of all time.

It is Steve McQueen's movie all the way. Watching Steve McQueen on a motorcycle (as he switches from his character to a German pursuing his character) is reminiscent of seeing Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood. When you have a star like McQueen (or Flynn) who can do extremely dangerous physical stunts the result is usually great fun to see.

NJS has always identified with Richard Attenborough's character, Bartlett.
He's the only character who gets captured without any fatal weaknesses doing him in.

Someday, perhaps, the Matrix will be destroyed and people can go about making movies like this again. Until that day arrives NJS sends out news blogs that American Nazis immediately censor.
