America's dirty secret 6 Million companion animals / pets murdered every year

Tell everyone about Americas inhumane secret. Spay and neuter is needed to humanely prevent healthy pets being euthanized in America every year. There are not enough homes for the 6 million homeless pets America murders every year. Tell everyone you know what is going on in shelters near you.

The dogs you can see in these pictures are scheduled for euthanization in just one animal control shelter in less than a week.

To adopt a shelter pet and save one or more of the 6 million companion pets that America murders every years you can find a pet on Petfinder which lists pets at animal charities or rescue groups www.petfinder.com
There are so many homeless pets in America, that they cannot rescue them all,
or go to your nearest Animal Control Shelter
or Animal Shelter

Do not buy from a breeder, pet shop, puppy mill, or people who are irresponsible and have not spayed and neutered their pets and have accidental litters back yard breeder (BYB). Buying from any of them will continue the cycle of more homeless pets than homes and healthy pets being killed. These are motivated by money and greed, if they cared about animals they would care about all the animals killed in shelters because they are irresponsible creating more animals. Those animals in shelters are adoptable, and just as beautiful and loving as your pet but there are not enough homes for them.

Have a look at Gone but Never Forgotten Pets (might take a couple of minutes to appear on the screen) shelterrescue.org/id20.html to see just some of the dogs and cats, and puppies and kittens that were euthanized at a couple of Georgia Animal Control Shelters. They are typical of the pets being killed every day.

Nearly every publicly funded animal control shelter in America kills animals (they call it euthanization), most of these homeless dogs and cats are gassed to death which means 10 minutes of agony, their lungs feel pain like a human lung feels pain. This killing is immoral, but it is worse being most shelters gas rather than inject. Most shelters will only keep pets for between 3-7 days before they kill them.
In many states they kill 3 out of 4 pets that are homeless in animal shelters. In Georgia 1 in 3 homeless pts are surrendered by pet owners, the other 2 out of 3 are lost pets. These shelters are murdering people's pets, healthy cats and dogs. Your pets are not safe. Microchips and collars can identify your pet and pets should have a microchip. But many shelters do not have microchip readers even if your pet has identification.

Most Humane Societies kill, so if you do not want your money to go to murdering companion pets, you should donate to no kill charities or Spay USA (SpayUSA) to prevent pet overpopulation humanely instead of by taking pets and killing them www.spayusa.org

These animals are only alive because of rescue groups. There is so much pet overpopulation locally, and people do not spay and neuter enough even when it is available for free or low cost, but low cost spay and neuter is not available in many areas. And so many people are irresponsible and have litters which kills other pets because there are more pets than homes. That is why these pets have to be transferred to other States for adoption and foster, and to no kill animal shelters in other States.

Adopt a cat or dog:
You can help pets by adoption, or fostering, or providing a temporary initial home for a few days, so that pet rescue people from other states can pull animals from kill shelters before they are moved to low kill areas. Help with transport to low kill areas and states, donate, or sponsor, volunteer at shelters so that pets get affection. Many pets are terrified and alone in animal control shelters, and for many of them in their last days they have a miserable end to their lives. Please tell people to always adopt from an animal control shelter or rescue group, and to spay and neuter their pets. If they want to help, these pets only have a few days, so they have to act immediately. Only 20% of pets in the USA are adopted from animal shelters. The rest are from other places like puppy mills, pet shops and breeders, or irresponsible pet owners who have accidental litters, who are causing pet overpopulation because they want to make money while homeless pets die.

Adopting a pet from a shelter means you save the life of a cat or dog, and have a friend for life:
Ten Commandments for Responsible Owners
1. My life is likely to last about 10 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you!
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice and when it's speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen in my absence". Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.
As long as there are homeless pets, with the amount of puppies and kittens a dog or cat can produce it is important for people to spay and neuter. There will still be enough pets. At the moment America kills 6 million companion animals every year.
