Open Letter To Andree Graziana
Uncovering what homelessness
and poverty really is.
Reporting from Washington, D.C.
Again, D.C. Independant Media Centers
website is experiencing technical
difficluties.
But read on.
Mr. Graziana:
Advocate for the Homeless Services Reform
Act. On Wednesday March 16th, 2005,
10 AM, you and supporters of this D.C.
City Council bill, held a hearing at
City Hall. D.C. City Councilman Adrian
Fenty sponsored this legislation, with
refreshments being served.
At any rate, this bill expressed commitment
to improve the shelter system in the District
of Columbia. While HSR gets into numerous
reason as to what it does, such is a sad
example of quality of life issues in the
nation's capital. This is coming from
a former person who lived in shelters,
better known as modern day plantations
for nine eights. Though not living in
the same plantation.
At any rate, as you are aware, the
District Of Columbia is paid by the sweat,
toil and tears of taxpayers throughtout
the United States. There is no excuse
for the existance of shelters, when
there are no hurricanes, tornados or
earth quakes that would bring them into
being. Economic injuries being thrust
upon residents of the District of
Columbia, commonly refered to as poverty
and homelssness, is growing worse.
We have on our hands nothing more than
modern day slavery. Considering
skyrocketing prices to afford to live
in Washington, D.C., the presence
of these facilities are also a
violation of the 13th Amendment
to the U.S. Constitution.
You and those who support continued
shelters in Washington, D.C. should be
ashamed of yourselves. Though I know
that is not going to happen, and to
address these matters in a court of
law would do no good. They are
contributors to the problem.
