LOCAL News :: Media
Part 2 of, To Baltimore IMC Editors.
Why coverage of protests,
rallies and demonstrations
is not credible news.
Report from Washington, D.C.
In my recent news article
to the editors of the
Baltimore Independant Media
Center; Though not excluding
other IMC's throughout the
world, I brought attention
to the fact that Independant
Media Centers are not doing
their jobs when they stear
of it's original mission.
But before getting into
that, I need to disclose a
fact that the D.C. Independant
Media Center is experiencing
a technical problem. This
explains why I have skipped
jurisdictions and have ended
up in B'More with this report.
Nevertheless, technicians
of the D.C. IMC, probably on
orders of some internal IMC
editorial genious, have put
in place a "Activist Calendar".
On the other hand, this
calendar blocks newswire
stories from being read, and
also full stories of features.
This is the main reason why
I have emphasized that IMC's
must stick to the script,
and the reason for this
current news report. Now,
some of you go-hard editors
are going to get hard-headed
and say, "Iam going to do
what I want to do". Well
remember this:
Only fools set themselves
up for failure.
As to the issue at hand.
In todays report, I left
many in bewilderment as
to what kinds of reports
on the Baltimore IMC, as
well as other IMC's
throughout the world,
violates the mission of
IMC---"an alternative to
corporate media". The
violation is the news
coverage of protests,
rallies and demonstrations.
If the second mission of
IMC is, "The passionate
tellings of truth",
then most certainly there
is not only a violation of
the first mission of the
IMC, but also the second.
Most people know, those
who are educated anyway,
that protests, rallies
and demonstrations will do
nothing against the issue
that is being addressed.
I have brought this to the
attention of the Philadelphia
Independant Media Center.
Two editors there, Rich
Gardner and Aaron Couch,
lashed out at me for
opposing Gardner's protest
feature. I brought up the
same issue being addressed
here. I further mentioned,
as I do here that, "Did the
counter-inaugural kick
President Bush out of
office? Hell no. He's
still there. Did the
protest against the
invasion of Iraq stop the
invasion? When you see the
point, it is not about
winning here, it is a point.
To sooth the souls of the IMC,
corporate media---IMC rivals--
will report on these protests,
rallies and demonstrations.
They always have, they always
will, due to the fact of
seeking trust from the public.
But we all know better. There
is news out there to be reported,
adn it being ignored. A good
example is the recent report of
stolen petitions from the 2004
recall campaign against D.C.
Mayor Williams. Both of my
stories were deleted by the
D.C. and Baltimore IMC. This
is being disrespectful to the
public.
Ladies and gentleman of the
IMC, Iam not the boss here,
Iam only advising you all
of the mission of the IMC.
No one can get into throwing
the book out there about
IMC policy violations
when the mission is being
violated. IMC has no right,
but a duty, obligation and
responcibility to report the
news. No matter how ugly it
is.
