Due to wild success in 2004, the Washington, DC Green Festival is
coming back to town on September 24-25th, 2005. Companies with
expertise in all areas of the Green economy will be showcasing their
products and services at the Green Festival, hosted by two
non-profits, Co-op America and Global Exchange.
More than 50 exciting and inspirational speakers will address the
festival including the host of Democracy Now Amy Goodman, Congressman
Dennis Kucinich, nationally recognized progressive investigative
journalist Greg Palast, Rev. Graylan Hagler of Washington, DC,
founder of United for Peace and Justice, and Ariel Gore from San
Francisco, CA, publisher of HipMama magazine and multiple parenting
books. Medea Benjamin and CODEPINK will be in full force with two
events. Medea will be presenting on the Main Stage on Saturday at 6pm
and CODEPINK will have a panel presentation on Sunday at 4pm also on
the Mainstage.
The many business areas represented at the festival include (but are
not limited to) healthy, organic, and vegetarian foods, green
technology, renewable energy, eco-fashion, green finances, and Fair
Trade goods. The festival this year includes an expanded family
section including readings by local and national childrens book
authors and Discovery Creek Childrens Museums Rolling Rainforest,
where children of all ages can walk through a replica of a tropical
rainforest.
Whether youre looking for new recipes or composting options,
searching for a green investment firm, wanting to be energized by an
inspiring speaker, or just want a cool place to spend a hot
afternoon, the Green Festival is a perfect place to connect with your
local community.

Why: The Green Festival is a movement-building event creating a
physical space where environmental and social justice organizations
come together to usher in the next economy.
There are thousands of businesses and individuals who are committed
to a world where life values are prioritized over money values-
including the over 15,000 community members, 300 businesses, and many
speakers who attended last year.The Green Festival was the first event
at the Washington DC Convention Center to do comprehensive resource
recovery and was able to reduce waste by 92% through recycling,
re-using, and composting, and supporting environmentally friendly
electricity by investing in clean, renewable wind power offsets.
