Sharon: Israel to send aid assessment delegation to US

Israel will send representatives of the defense and health ministries to the Gulf coast of the United States this week in order to assess the assistance needs of the area following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina last week.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opened the cabinet meeting Sunday morning with an offer of aid to the United States government. "The United States has stood by us during difficult times and it is our duty to assist it in the areas in which we can help," he said. "I want to reiterate my condolences. We will do everything in our power to render assistance in the difficult situation in which so many American citizens find themselves."

Sharon did not elaborate on the size of the delegation or the location to which it was headed.

The Foreign Ministry knew of at least one Israeli, a truck driver by trade, who was still missing in the New Orleans area as of Sunday morning, the Israeli consul in Houston, Texas, told Army Radio.

The aid the US Congress planned to send to the Gulf States hit by the hurricane would come at the expense of part of the aid package promised to Israel in the wake of the disengagement, Army Radio reported. The American government had promised Israel a massive $2.2 billion assistance package in order to cover part of the expense of the implementation of the disengagement plan. (go to article for more)

His revelations of the unprotected borders, and possibilities of terrorists coming across them, now coupled with a totally inadequate response to an urban disaster, shows how incompetent and ineffective this government is, and the real possibility of a nuclear attack, leaving Americans to fight for themselves for survival, for 5-6 days without water, and medical attention is a no brainier!



This government has been too interested in making the rich elite grow richer, through Halliburton, Carlyle and oil monopolies, tax cuts for the wealthy, and assisting Israel relieve their pipeline problems after the Iranian Revolution, to seriously give a care for its own DEFENSE!
