Metro DC Mobilizing Meeting
For September 24-26 Actions to End the War on Iraq
Monday, August 29, 7 pm

Speakers: RAY McGOVERN. Ray is a former CIA analyst serving for 27 years—from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. His responsibilities at the CIA included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief (PDB). These, the two most authoritative genres of intelligence reporting, have been alluded to over recent years in reports on intelligence prior to the war in Iraq. During the mid-eighties, Ray was one of the senior analysts conducting early morning briefings of the PDB one-on-one with the Vice President, the Secretaries of State and Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. Ray is a founding member of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. In January 2003, after it had become clear that intelligence analysis was being corrupted by political pressure to “justify” an unprovoked attack on Iraq, a handful of intelligence community alumnus created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. VIPS now includes over 50 former professionals from CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Department of State’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Army Intelligence, the FBI, the National Security Agency, and other US and Allied intelligence agencies.

TIA STEELE. Tia is a member of Gold Star Families for Peace. Her stepson, Marine Lance Cpl. David M. Branning, the sixteenth Marylander to die in the Iraq War, was killed in Fallujah on November 12, 2004. Tia has been a tireless critic of the Iraq War, and currently serves as the Exhibit Coordinator of the Baltimore American Friends Service Committee’s “Eyes Wide Open Tour.” This tour features a moving display of a pair of boots for each U.S. soldier killed in the Iraq War and Occupation.

Want to see an end to:
- a war based on lies against a country that never harmed us?
- people dying, with no end in sight?
- billions spent to occupy Iraq, while our schools and hospitals starve for funds?
- young people with few opportunities being pressured to join the
military?
- an occupation making us less safe at home, giving Bush another excuse
to strip immigrants and all of us of more rights?
- Congresspeople continuing to fund the war?

Then join with groups across the U.S. to pressure Congress and the White House to end this war!
