*HARRY POTTER, HALF-BLOOD PRINCE*




i just finished J.K. Rowling's sixth book in the Potter series. i found the 'Half-Blood prince' to be exemplary. if anyone out there hasn't plugged into the Potter series you might want to try it. start with book one and keep on going. i find that once I get going with a Potter book i can't stop reading it for hours. (I don't read much fiction between every new release. maybe that's why I am particularly hooked on this series.)

there are definitely parallels between the darkness that is encircling Hogwarts with present realities (e.g., 9/11, the 7/7 bombings, etc.) however, i don't advise people to look into the Potter series for political insight.

Rowling's unmistakable message is that Love will eventually triumph over Evil. However, as with the present political realities "The Half-Blood Prince" sure makes it awfully hard to imagine how this is going to happen.

I'd hate to think that the only realm with which the enveloping darkness is repelled is when the last chapter of this remarkable series is published. It is up to us Muggles to find our own way--and quickly, too. (Loughrey)
