UK Social Service Abuses

I thought that in light of all this you should know what is happening within Social Services here in Salford, UK. I believe that this is only the tip of an iceberg that may extend across the UK.
If you are interested in investigating this please contact me.

To Whom it may concern

Social Services have been freely distributing confidentual information with out the consent of the service users and for 15 years have abused the system and been getting away with it.

They have done alot to cover up this. I am disgusted at the way they treat their users and that it is a disgrace to the standards of social care work.

Social Services has gotten away with too much, it is time this stops. I feel angry and do not trust social services. I too have been a user of social services and have been abused by them. They charged me a fee under their charging polices for their services and took advantage of me by having me service their computers and teach basic IT in their department in a mental health unit.

Below is a copy of the letter I sent to the Secretary of State for Health on the 25th June 2005, I have yet to receive any response.

Secretary of State for Health
Department of Health
Richmond House
79 Whitehall
London SW1A 2NL

25TH June 2005

Dear Secretary of State

I wish to report a serious breach of security that occurred at the Social Services Department at Cleveland House, Eccles Old Road, Salford.

I attended a meeting of a local group on Thursday, 24th June 2005. The meeting was held at Cleveland House in Salford.

In the room, lying on the table, were copies of the Mental Health Act Commission report of the visit to the Mental Health Services of Salford and Salford Social Services on 20-21 March 1997, and bags containing BSTMHP CPA Reviews of various patients (I believe several hundred patients at least).
One of the bags was open and it was possible to see what was contained in it.

It was a simple matter to make several photocopies of this material and also to ascertain that confidential details concerning mental health patients in the various Mental Health units and Social Service Users were being divulged to various social workers within Salford, Bolton and Trafford. I believe that the divulging of such confidential details of Patients and Service Users, which was without the knowledge of the individuals concerned, could be a breach of the Ethical Code under Patient Confidentiality.

I realise that my actions were serious, but my only intention was to highlight what has been, for a long time, a serious problem within the City of Salford Social Services and their treatment of Service Users.

The Officials at Social Services want to make the chair person at the meeting responsible, however she is blind and wheel chair bound, and in no wise should be held responsible for my actions on the day.

This meeting had been prearranged for two weeks prior, the staff at Cleveland House knew full well that we would be meeting there; they were the ones that provided the room.

By the time that you receive this letter I will have returned all the photocopies that I have in my possession. I have no desire to divulge to any other party such confidential information.
I have stated to Michelle Anderton, the official at Meadowbrook Unit, that I would be reporting this matter to you. I was asked to “keep this local”. At present I do not know what and if any, action will be taken against me. This is not as important to me as the action that should be taken to protect the confidentiality of Service Users. It is not clear whether or not any of my details, or those of anyone else at the meeting, were contained in the sacks. It is of great concern to learn that Service Users’ seem to be freely divulged when we are told that these details are “Strictly Confidential”. This does not inspire confidence in Social Services.

Yours sincerely
