An Invitation To Party In Naperville (G8 Solidarity)

Those of us in the Chicago west suburbs are organizing a Reclaim The Streets! party in solidarity on June 29th, 2002. We cordially invite all fun-loving people to join us in the streets of Naperville in celebrating life, freedom, and resistance to corporate rule.

Welcome to Naperville, Illinois, USA. Please have
your credit card ready.

This is the golden city of corporate globalization.
A city of opulent automobiles and grande lattes,
expensive clothes and overpriced restaurants. We
have been voted the "best place in the country to
raise children," and many CEO's and owners with
companies and factories in Chicago choose Naperville
as a place to store their wealth. Ours is truly a
city without a care in the world.

Pay no attention to the alienated youth, the
domestic violence, the covert racism, the drugs,
suicide, date rape and anorexia. Our utter lack of
available culture works well for us, for we have
removed the street musicians and corner
breakdancers from our town long ago. You will not
need to concern yourself with such riff-raff here.

And definitely do not bother yourself with the
glaring differences between wealthy Naperville and
nearby Aurora. Do not worry your head about
suburban sprawl and environmental destruction.
It will grow back eventually, we are sure of that.
Such issues are trifling, and not worthy of your time.

Come, join us in the best that capitalism has to offer.

An Invitation To Party In Naperville
Against The G8 Summit, And In Solidarity With Protests In Ottawa, Calgary, and Kananaskis.

On June 26th-27th, the Group of Eight will be meeting in Kananaskis County, Alberta, Canada. The last G8 meeting in Genoa, Italy drew 250,000 protesters and resulted in one death and hundreds of injuries. Kananaskis is the G8's response to such organized resistance. If you can't meet anywhere in the world without protests, why not meet in the mountains?

Despite this, activists all over the world are still organizing. Just because they can't see us out of their windows, doesn't mean we aren't here. Protests are planned for Calgary, Alberta, and Ottowa, Ontario, as well as those brave enough to breach the military zone of Kananaskis County.

Those of us in the Chicago west suburbs are organizing a Reclaim The Streets! party in solidarity on June 29th, 2002. We cordially invite all fun-loving people to join us in the streets of Naperville in celebrating life, freedom, and resistance to corporate rule.

We've been doing a lot of local outreach, and much more is planned. Last year's RTS! party, on July 20th, also in solidarity with G8 protests, drew 300 people, and word definitely got out about it. Many local youth and activists are excited about this year's follow-up Reclaim The Streets! party.

We ask people to come already organized: Bring puppets, drums, banners, costumes, bicycles, skateboards, sidewalk chalk, boomboxes, guitars, and anything else to make a do-it-yourself street party successful.

If you can't attend the party, but you or your organization would like to help out, please contact us! We could use anything from educational materials to donations to legal support and everything inbetween.

And, if you are coming to Naperville, let us know! Let's show the G8 just how much fun we can have while they're off hiding in the woods.
