*HISTORY*
June 7, 2005 on this day:
In 1614, English King James II dismissed his second Parliament. James, who took the throne in 1603, immediately encountered financial difficulties. Parliament refused to grant him additional money and he proceeded to raise revenue on his own authority causing protests from Parliament. He dissolved the body and sent its members home. His second Parliament had three hundred new members and the entire session was spent arguing with the King over revenue. This Parliament ended without making a single enactment. This conflict between King and Parliament would eventually lead to civil war in England.
