In 1536, Anne Boleyn, wife if English king Henry VIII, was executed in London. Anne had been married to Henry for three years, during which time she had given birth to a daughter, the future Queen Elizabeth I. After the birth of Elizabeth, Anne had several miscarriages, and Henry became convinced that she would not bear him a son. Also, the couple began to quarrel frequently, as Anne became angry at Henry's involvement with other women. By 1536 Henry decided to rid himself of her, and had her charged with adultery and attempting to poison him. Although the charges were without evidence, Anne was convicted and executed. Anne was the first, but not the last, wife of Henry VIII to meet such a fate.
