Preventive Detention
NPR "experts" discuss the issue of preventive detention.
According to a NPR news panel many of the people detained after 9/11 are being held to prevent future terrorism. They are being held for immigration violations, as material witnesses and for criminal charges unrelated to 9/11. Some have recieved secret hearings before federal judges. But INS
detainees do not recieve hearings and only have lawyers if they can afford to hire them. The Justice department is only releasing the number of people detained which is over 1100.When asked about the case of Green Party activist Nancy Oden no one had heard of her. Several members of the panel advocated infringing the constitution in times of war.
