April 19, 2005 on this day:

In 1861, soon after the U.S. Civil War had begun, a riot erupted in Baltimore, Maryland after a group of U.S. soldiers attempted to move through the city streets. Maryland was a Southern slave state, and although Maryland had not seceded, Confederate sympathy was very strong, especially in Baltimore. The riot began when citizens attacked the soldiers, who responded by firing into the crowd. Four solders and nine civilians were killed.
