CFL ALERT: ISRAEL SOLDIERS SHOT TO KILL THREE PALESTINIAN YOUTH IN RAFAH EARLIER THIS MONTH.
On April 9th three Palestinian youth were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers as they chased a soccer ball that was kicked near the Israeli apartheid wall. Israeli Occupation soldiers first said that they aimed their weapons at the legs of the three children; however a military probe showed that the soldiers shot to kill by two soldiers who fired 12 rounds of ammunition from close range at them, killing them instantly. An Israeli military spokesman said, "The soldiers acted as if they were involved in a confrontation with an armed cell, and there was no justification for this," a military source said. "There was no reason for an incident like this to have ended in the death of three youths." To date, no measures have been taken against either the officer or soldiers involved in the murder of these children.
TALKING POINTS
*Ask your representatives to speak out against the killing of Palestinian children. Remind them that while they demand reform and democratization from Palestinians, they are not pressuring Israel to respect even the basic tenets of democracy in their confrontations with Palestinian children. Ask your representatives how Palestinians can have a respect for democracy when they have no real freedom or justice.
*Tell your representatives that as American citizens you cannot in good faith countenance the expending of your tax dollars towards the maintenance of Israeli sovereignty of Palestinians, a situation that will inevitably result in more death, injury, conflict and threats to world peace.
*Tell your representatives that while the vision of a peaceful, democratic Middle East is a noble one, that the United States is not sustaining such a vision while maintaining contradictory positions on freedom and justice. Remind them that the policy of supporting Israeli apartheid carry within them the seeds for further conflict. We should not continue to financially support Israel as long as that country takes actions that threaten peace.
*Remind your representatives that reconciliation and peace are not possible while injustice, violence and the subjugation of the Palestinian nation is condoned and overlooked by the U.S. government. Compromises cannot be expected from only one party.
