Treading the Peace Path

Tom Warner, an employee of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, hasn't much been involved with other activist organizations, but felt compelled to participate in the Peace Path. He says, "You know, it's funny because we're a Judeo-Christian society that teaches about, you know, Christianity and going to church and family values, but peace is seen as a negative thing. I work around the corner, and I said 'my gosh, I've seen people do this, why not send a message that not all of us watch Fox News and equate pacifism with weakness."' Indymedia inquired about where to go from here, now that we are entrenched in the war. Warner responded, "I think we're seeing now that there's a lot of problems over there, and they're not going to be solved soon no matter how big our humveys are and how big our bombers are. You have to eventually appeal to friendship and diplomacy, which is what they're trying to do now, trying to get the United Nations involved belatedly in the struggle. We're realizing that we can't do it alone, that we have to talk to people."
