Trade ministers from across the Western Hemisphere gathered in Quito, Ecuador from October 31-November 1 for the 2002 ministerial meeting on the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas. 10,000 others gathered in Quito that weekend too, but in the streets to protest the FTAA. After tear gas and police intimidation, the protesters won a meeting to present their demands to the assembled trade ministers. U.S. media ignored these events. Rachel Coen reports.

Green Party activist, author, and Labor historian, Bill Harvey, raised the question, at the Progressive Action Center, on January 12, 2003: "War with Iraq: What's in It for Us?" His talk was under the auspices of the "Coalition Against Global Expolitation" (CAGE).
