Pittsburgh is a bastion of trade unionism, as I found out on a recent visit. It takes great pride, too, in championing the underdog. Imagine my shock, when I picked up a copy of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on May 31, 2003. On its commentary page, I found a Palestinian-bashing rant by one Charles Krauthammer. It was titled “Unless real steps are taken to curb terror, Mideast peace will never be achieved.” He sounds like a board member of Israel’s ruling political clique, the extreme right-wing Likud Party.
